Jeff McKim is doing worse, Shana better
5-21-09
Shana is doing very well right now and although she is tired, she is getting around pretty well. Surprisingly, she is not sick at all at this point and although she has a lot of back pain, she is doing OK. We have Chrissy and Doug coming in this weekend and then on the following Wednesday, April, TJ and the girls are coming in so we can get Maddie baptised and they are spending a few days here. So we are going to be having some company for a while and that is good.
Jeff McKim is not doing well. They put in a tracheotomy and a stomach picc for food but he has now awakened any more than he was before. Arlington Memorial has done about all it can do to help him so we are looking for a good stroke rehabilitation facility locally. There really are only a few so if you know of one that can help him wake up fully and then gain back strength of mind and body, please let me know. It is critical. Jeff is going to be very sick for a very long time it looks like so we need to help him if we can.
Pray for us all please.

Jim,
I am so happy to read that Shana is feeling better. I hope she continues to thrive on the treament.
I am very saddened to hear about Jeff. My mother suffered a stroke last February and we put her in HealthSouth in the old Cook’s Children’s Hospital. While it is an older building, they really did good with my mom’s rehabilitation. You cannot even tell she had a stroke now except for a few very subtle things. She was never in a coma and didn’t have the other physical complications that Jeff is having, but they were excellect with my mom. I just thought I would let you know.
Thank you for the continuous updates.
Take care,
Julie

Shana and Jim Everyday Miracles Move me no mountains, and part me no seas; no castles of gold in some far distant land, Just Everyday Miracles, to hold in my hand. Nothing tremendous, stupendous, or grand; my loved one beside me to walk hand in hand. A song in the air in the cool evening breeze to echo the songs of the birds in the trees. Give me, dear Lord, for this day as I need, And help me, dear Lord, both in word and in deed. Show someone who needs you, You’ll always be there. Such Everyday Miracles, Lord, in Your Care. I just heard about Jeff and I am walking around in shock. I cannot even cry like I need to because I am numb. I just keep thinking of all of the talks we have had, and how many times he made me laugh so hard my sides hurt, and when we were in New Orleans how he suddenly materialized at my side, as we all strolled on Bourbon St., in this big, floppy velvet hat.
I said, “Where did you get that!”
He shrugged and said some woman said he was cute and put it on his head.
I said, “well, yeah, I guess you’re cute.”
He just gave me that Jeff look.
He never smiles for pictures because he says the camera sucks out your soul if you do.
Jeff, come on back and make me laugh so hard I spit out Pepsi…

Jim,
This may seem redundant but I’m repeating it for you from my last post to make sure that you read it ASAP. You need to call Noreen and Rich McClintock at 817-496-4468. They are good friends as well as members of our church. You most likely know them, and I feel certain that Shana knows Noreen. You can use my name, no problem, when you call. Noreen and Rich’s daugher, Megan, is an excellent occupational therapist who specializes in working with stroke victims to regain their speech, movement, etc, at Arlington Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, I cannot remember Megan’s married name, only that her husband’s name is Matt, and we attended their wedding and I just recently saw Megan. So shame on me! But good news is Megan is a doll and the loveliest young woman your friend could have on his team, helping him over his hurdles that he has to go through to regain his health again. So please, get ahold of them; leave a message if you need to and Noreen will call you back. Keep calling if you don’t hear from them right away. Noreen is always jumping through hoops, doing this, doing that and they have a daughter who is in Jr High so, keep after it, if you don’t get through right away. Tell Noreen that Cathi Steffens said it was pertinent that you get in touch with her awesome, caring daughter who is quite wonderful and is on staff at Arlington Memorial and may be a Godsend for your friend. Do this at once. You won’t regret it. You couldn’t ask for nicer people. Megan is the best. I love her dearly and have watched her grow up. Trust me; your friend will be in great hands if Megan can somehow come into his life.
Thanks for the absolutely great news about Shana. I’m so happy she is doing better. God does answer our prayers. This I know for sure. Tell Shana the sun shines all the brighter when she’s smiling!!
Lots of love,
Cathi
