Another Scary Day
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009This morning Dad woke up to give mom her pain medication around 8 a.m. They talked for about 30 minutes and Dad went back to bed. At 9:30 he woke up and found Mom sleeping with her head crooked and tried putting her head back up so she wouldn’t have a crick in her neck. He noticed that she didn’t wake up and wasn’t able to speak to him. He woke me up and I sprinted out of bed. Mom was slunched in her chair and wasn’t able to speak or move. She was just moaning. We weren’t sure what was happening to her so we were trying the stroke tests since she couldn’t talk or move. While Dad was trying to get her to say something and squeeze his hand, I dialed 911. I stayed on the phone with them, which seemed like a long time at the time, and they arrived at the house. They came in and put her on the stretcher and took her to Harris Hospital. Dad rode with Mom in the ambulance to the Hospital. During the ambulance ride they tested her sugar levels and found out that she was in Diabetic Shock. Mom said she felt like she was in a Twilight Zone and couldn’t understand why she couldn’t move or talk to anyone. She would see the trees and powerlines flash by while she was in the ambulance. At one point she realized that something must have been wrong and figured out that she was on her way to the Hospital. Diane came by to check on us and she got here when Mom was put in the ambulance. Diane went to the ambulance and apparently the paramedics told her not to get in the ambulance. Once she informed them that she was a Youth Minister they moved aside and let her in. Apparently Diane does have the power of God behind her! She said a prayer while she placed her hand on Mom’s face and held Dad’s hand. Diane said that she had a feeling that we would need her today and boy did we! Diane came in and stayed with me until Brad came to the house and met up. Brad and I left to go to Harris and when we arrived Mom was coherent and able to speak and move. Dad told us that once they put the sugar in her she came out of it quickly. We are extremely relieved that we were home and that she was able to come out of the Diabetic Shock. The doctors gave her some more pain relief as well as some antibiotics for a urinary tract infection. After several hours , they released her to go home. From now on we are to test her sugar levels to make sure something like this won’t happen again. It was incredibly scary this morning to see her like that. I am incredibly grateful that Dad and I were here to help her and get the attention needed. Mom is pretty worn out after that, and she is pretty shook up. April decided to come in last minute today and should be arriving soon. It will definitely be nice to have that extra help. Wes is also on his way back home. I think Mom is glad to have all of us in town now. Tomorrow we get the results of the CT scan and we’ll post as soon as we can. Please continue to pray for Mom and those that are ill. Today’s prayer was definitely answered.
